Flight - Dubai to Johannesburg

We just boarded our flight to Johannesburg. The B777-300 is definitely a step down from the shiny new A380. The Business Class configuration is a bit strange at 2-3-2, but thankfully we booked two adjoining seats by the window.
It’s only eight hours, so we’ll manage just fine 🤣. On the plus side, there’s no shortage of legroom!
This flight starts with a “light bite” and then breakfast before arrival. I’ll skip posting the menus since they’re very similar to what we had on the first flight. Debbie was given another “pinkish” Bvlgari amenities bag, and I ended up with another brown one. Our granddaughter loves these—she’s building quite the little collection!

We tried really hard to get some sleep on this flight, as we were both exhausted—but no luck. The seats just weren’t as comfortable as those on the A380. We landed right on time at 5:30 am, completely beat.

Immigration was a breeze, and our bags came out within five minutes. Once we collected them, we faced the challenge of getting to our hotel. It sits above the airport, which meant five sets of escalators to climb! Thankfully, we had a porter help us—there was no way we could have managed five bags on those escalators. Sure, we could have used the elevator, but the porter said it was quite a hike to get there. Running on zero sleep, up the escalators we went!

Our hotel, the City Lodge, is perched above a five-level parking garage and connects directly to the airport, so we didn’t even have to step outside. Very convenient, and perfectly adequate for a short stay—it actually reminds us of a Holiday Inn.

After checking in, we showered and tried again to get a couple of hours of sleep. Once again, no success. Oh well, tonight should be different!

This evening our friend Douw and his parents, who live about four hours away, will meet us at the hotel. We’ll have dinner together at the hotel restaurant and then call it an early night.

Tomorrow… Kruger, here we come!
