Cruise Day #3 - Genoa

Today started off great, as we both slept in until almost 8 a.m.! I think all of our traveling has finally caught up to us. After getting up, Debbie took advantage of it being a port day—knowing most passengers would be rushing off to excursions—and took our last load of “delicate” clothing to the laundry room. This ship only has one laundry room per floor, with just two washers and two dryers, so you really have to time your visits!

Once the wash was done and hung up in our cabin, we headed to the Sanctuary Restaurant for breakfast.

For our Canadian friends!

The cake was at the entrance of our restaurant.

Having been to Genoa many times over the years, we decided to skip the sightseeing and instead go for a five-mile walk in the city just for the exercise. Once we hit the 2.5-mile mark, we turned around and made our way back to the ship.

On our return, we found an invitation to the Most Traveled Guests Cocktail Party hosted by the Captain. Usually on longer voyages they hold a luncheon, which we prefer.

We then went to one of my favorite spots onboard—the Sanctuary Club. This Sanctuary is new to us, as it’s much larger and configured completely differently from the ones on other Princess ships. We plan on spending the afternoon here!

A couple of tidbits to share for our cruising friends: the only motion sensor in the cabin is located just outside the bathroom door.

This sensor activates a three-minute timer for a small light beneath the bathroom counter.

It doesn’t really bother us, but if you’re in the bathroom with only that light on and stay longer than three minutes, you’ll suddenly find yourself in the dark!

We’re still using our own night light, which makes late-night bathroom visits much easier without needing to turn on any lights.

We also really like the new button-style flush control for the toilet — a nice little upgrade!

Before dinner tonight, we did a bit of exploring and finally made it up to Deck 17 to see the Dome. It’s a beautiful, air-conditioned space that’s open to everyone during the day.

We stopped at O’Malley’s for an appetizer and a glass of Silverado before dinner.

I have to say, most of the venues we’ve visited so far feel a bit on the small side. The restaurant lines around 7:30 haven’t improved—tonight the Deck 7 restaurant had a line of at least 100 passengers!

Dinner and service this evening were outstanding, as was our wine.
Tonight’s tableside trolley feature was Châteaubriand.
