Cruise Day #8 - Corfu, Greece

We Arrived in Corfu! 🇬🇷

We arrived at the beautiful Greek island of Corfu this morning, with an AIDA cruise ship docked right alongside us.

After a very light breakfast of toast and sliced avocado, we waited until about 10 a.m. to head ashore.

The ship offered a $15 per person roundtrip shuttle to the old town, but we always prefer to walk. It’s about a mile and a half each way—flat, easy, and great exercise! On our walk into town, we spotted two other cruise ships — a Regent and an Oceania — so we knew it was going to be a busy day.

At first, the streets were fairly quiet, but after an hour or so, the crowds began to build. Here are some views from around town.

Debbie did her best to find something to buy but didn’t see anything she liked—and she noted that prices were quite high this time around.

We stopped at our favorite restaurant for lunch and enjoyed grilled octopus, fresh fried calamari, and some truly amazing bread.

Before leaving town, we paused to pay our respects at a touching memorial dedicated to Corfu’s Holocaust victims. It was a somber and moving reminder of the island’s history.

On our way back to the ship, the crowds had noticeably thickened. Then we saw why—two MSC ships had docked nearby, easily adding another 5,000 people into the mix!

By the time we reached the terminal, it was an absolute zoo, with MSC passengers both disembarking and embarking. It felt great to finally step back onboard our peaceful ship.

By the way, Corfu has numerous ferry connections to nearby ports, including one of the main routes to Albania.

Tonight, our dinner plans changed. Instead of dining at Love by Britto, we attended the Frescobaldi Wine Dinner in Sabatini's Italian Trattoria.

It was well attended, by my count there were 70 attendees. The service was good, as was the food. We were under impressed by the wines.

Tomorrow we are at sea. Hopefully, it will ge warm enough to enjoy the Sanctuary Club.
