Cruise Day #3 - Sea Day 2 of 6

Well, yesterday turned out to be a bit of a bust. After breakfast, we wandered the ship and found the Fitness Center. We immediately commented on how much the ship was rocking side-to-side. We were in 10–12 foot swells, which is our least favorite motion at sea—especially for Debbie.

We returned to our stateroom, where Debbie took her trusted non-drowsy Dramamine, and I got ready for a workout on one of the three elliptical machines. I headed back to the Fitness Center with plans for a 60-minute workout. Well… about 20 minutes in, I started feeling a little queasy, and by 30 minutes I called it quits. Back to the stateroom I went, followed by a shower. And to make a long story short, that’s where we stayed for the rest of the day and evening!

Last night was our first formal night, and we had been invited to a special pre-dinner event for Seabourn first-timers with the Captain. Around 5:00 pm, I asked Debbie if she felt like getting dressed up. She replied that if I didn’t mind, she’d rather remain horizontal. I wholeheartedly agreed—and took a Dramamine myself.

Around 6:30, we ordered Beyond Meat burgers from room service. When they deliver your meal, they set up the table with a white linen tablecloth and napkins, salt and pepper shakers, and proper silverware. All we were missing was a vase with a rose! 🌹 They even advised us to call when we were finished so they could return and clear the dishes. Sure enough, once we called, they promptly showed up.

This morning, we both woke up refreshed and feeling 100%. The seas are definitely calmer today. Over the past week, I’d been following two separate LA-to-Hawaii blogs on Cruise Critic, and both mentioned rough seas leaving and returning to LA. I guess yesterday was our turn. I haven’t had motion issues in many years, but that side-to-side rolling is my Achilles’ heel. I’ll take rough bouncing any day!

We enjoyed a very nice breakfast in The Restaurant this morning.

Debbie had cinnamon French toast, and I went with blueberry pancakes.

Now we’re ready for a pleasant sea day ahead.

By the way, our stateroom has three motion-controlled lights—one at the base of each bedside table and one under the hallway makeup vanity. I took care of all three with my trusty electrical tape. I also used the tape to MacGyver our blue nightlight into the shaver outlet in the bathroom—it kept popping out… not anymore! 💪

This nightlight casts a soft blue glow throughout the bathroom, eliminating the need to turn on the overhead light during late-night visits.

One more nice touch: our stateroom has a very handy wall clock mounted near the bed. Simple, but much appreciated!

I almost forgot to mention that all staterooms are equipped with doorbells. They’re intentionally placed to avoid disturbing neighboring cabins with loud door knocking—such a thoughtful touch.
This would have been amazing to have a couple of months ago during our 36 days on the Sun Princess. On one of our 10-day segments, our neighbors ordered room service every single morning, right on cue at 6:00 a.m. We’d hear the knocking, followed by a cheerful “Room service!”… every… day. 😵‍💫 It was sooo annoying, and we were more than a little relieved when those neighbors finally disembarked.

In the past, the only place we’ve experienced doorbells like this was at the Four Seasons. Having them on a ship is a surprisingly significant—and very appreciated—amenity. 👍

We just had a nice walk around the pool deck.
The weather is actually very pleasant.

For lunch, we decided to walk through the Colonnade (the buffet—but you can also order tableside if you wish) to see what was available. As many of you know, we are not self-serve buffet lovers for many reasons. Well, right away we noticed that all of the hot items were served by staff. The cold salad station is self-serve, but it’s highly managed by several staff members, which we appreciated.

Among the many hot items, I noticed Spanish seafood paella and grilled swordfish. I was sold on the spot! I added some grilled marinated vegetables and potato salad to my plate.

The table settings were elegantly done, and drink service was immediate once we sat down. The food was DELICIOSO! This blog may slowly turn into a food blog if the meals keep wowing us like this. 😋 I finished my lunch with a scoop of rum raisin gelato from the staff-served gelato station.

Oh yeah… I almost forgot Debbie! She had a large Caesar salad with a scoop of tuna. Boring! 😆

You can also order from this tableside menu:
Some ship observations:

Each floor has very nice wall-mounted Hublot clock by the elevators and in several venues. I’d love to have a smaller version of one on my wrist!

There are many different types of beautiful art pieces displayed throughout the ship. Here are just a few of them…

Our stateroom minibar is replenished daily with your chosen beverages. Water comes in recyclable plastic containers and is also replenished daily.

This morning, Debbie stopped by Seabourn Square for a hot water to-go (she drinks plain hot water throughout the day… yuck! 😬). Instead of a paper cup, they use very nice ceramic mugs with a removable rubber sleeve—very fancy!
One thing we do miss from Princess is the Medallion that opens your stateroom door. Every time we return to our room, we have to fish around in our pockets for the cruise card. The card comes in a nice leather holder, but you have to remove it to insert it into the door—very old school. Seabourn could definitely use an upgrade here!

That's it for today. I'll update tonight's dinner and happenings tomorrow. ✍️
