Cruise Day #13 - Lima, Peru

We continue to have calm seas.  The weather today is overcast and forecasted to be 70° f.  We are docked in the port of Callao, a little more than an hour from downtown Lima.  This is a working port and we are not allowed to walk through it.

The ship is providing a free shuttle to the "Indian Market" in the Miraflores District.  The Indian Market is a collection of artisan shops.  The ride into town can take anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes depending on traffic.

We picked up our numbered shuttle tickets at 9:15 and then waited forever for our number to be called.  We were finally onboard the bus at 11:30!  The ride to the Indian Market took 70 minutes.  We then had to wait an additional 15 minutes to be allowed off the bus due to the heavy congestion of people and buses.

We were in Lima last year and toured the whole city.  So, this time we decided to spend our day in the Miraflores District.  This is one of the nicest and safest Districts in Lima.  As soon as we exited the bus, we started walking to the Larcomer Mall, a 20 minute walk for us.  The Larcomer Mall was built into cliffs overlooking the ocean.

This pier is where we had lunch last year at the fancy La Rosa Nautica Restaurant.

No matter where we are in the world, Debbie manages to find her favorite shops!  And, shopping she did!!!

We had a really good lunch at one of the Mall restaurants, Grilled Corvina with a lemon caper sauce.

And Peruvian beer!

After leaving the Mall, we spent the remainder of the afternoon in the Miraflores area.

Here is our drop-off/pickup point from last year, just 100 meters from the Mall.

I think this year, the Indian Market owners negotiated to have passengers dropped off in front of their shops.  It's all about the $$$!

This kitty was serving time in the local cat jail!

The ride back to the ship "only" took 60 minutes.  We returned back to the ship at 6:30 pm.  The ship is staying overnight in Callao and we are scheduled to leave by 6:00 pm tomorrow.

I plan on staying onboard tomorrow, Debbie is threatening to do some more shopping!

Penquins (and a whale)!!!

Boy, was it windy last night! Gusts reached 40 to 50 mph. But this morning, the skies were clear and the wind had completely died down. As w...
