The Wildlife Reserve

Here are some photos of the 8-room lodge. The rooms are beautiful, and the lounge is well set up with a full bar and satellite TV. The views are absolutely stunning!

This lion in the lounge has quite a story! Marnus was out in the bush when he spotted him resting under a tree. Suddenly, a Black Mamba struck, biting the lion on the left side of his face. The lion began rolling over, and within five minutes, he was dead. The snake vanished just as quickly as it appeared. Marnus couldn’t let such a magnificent animal go unappreciated, so he decided to have him taxidermied. He’s quite an impressive sight!

This morning, we set out in search of rhinos but came up empty-handed. The reserve is home to rhinos, 20 species of antelope, three types of wildebeest—blue, black, and golden, zebras, and servals (a type of cat). Marnus’s son, Gian, did a wonderful job guiding us around, and the reserve truly stretches as far as the eye can see.

During our four-wheeled drive we saw Elands, Kudos, Roans, Springboks, Waterbucks, zebras, wildebeests, a couple more I can't recall.

Tonight, we enjoyed a lovely cocktail hour around the boma as the sun set, followed by a fantastic dinner in the lounge prepared by the on-site chef. We also had a few fellow guests at the reserve—a friendly couple from Nebraska, a gentleman from Dallas, and a lovely couple from Cape Town.

Tomorrow, we’ll be attending the horse auction.
