Good Morning, Napoli!
We left the ship at 10 a.m. ready to do some serious shopping. The new subway station right in front of the cruise terminal is finally complete! Construction took much longer than expected because they had to dig around Roman ruins, which turned it into a full-scale archaeological project.
That's our ship in the above photo.
Naples isn’t for everyone, but we really love the energy of this city — it feels a lot like New York City. The streets are always buzzing with people, and scooters zip by in every direction. Driving here would definitely be a challenge!
In the below photo, you can see our ship in the background. As much as Debbie tried, she only made a couple of small purchases. However, we did clock an impressive 7.2 miles of walking, so our feet are feeling it. Our biggest purchase of the day was another suitcase — at just €25, it was too good to pass up! Once we return home, it’ll make its way to our daughter’s house.
Tomorrow is turnaround day in Civitavecchia. We had considered taking the train into Rome, an amazing city we’ve spent considerable time in. However, with a national railway strike taking place, we’re quite happy to stay onboard instead.
On top of that, the weather forecast is calling for rain most of the day, which also means no relaxing time in the Sanctuary Club.We had a fantastic dinner at Sabatini’s Trattoria! The menu was new to us, and since it changes tomorrow, we were lucky to have dine there tonight.
Dinner consisted of five courses, plus a Polenta Fries starter. We were so full that we passed on dessert—so only four courses for us! Debbie’s first course was the Italian Seafood Stew,
The third course, Fettuccine al Tartufo e Parmigiano, was the star of the evening—absolutely incredible!
For our fourth course, we each had the Parmigiana di Melanzane (Eggplant), which was also delicious.
Most of you know that we usually skip the onboard shows, but after hearing so many good things about Viva La Musica, we made it to the 10 p.m. performance in the Arena. It was really well done—the dancing was definitely the highlight!
Tomorrow is a big turnaround day in Civitavecchia (the port for Rome) as the majority of passengers will be disembarking and a whole new group will be joining the ship.
