Cruise Day #11 - Turnaround Day in Civitavecchia

Today we are in Civitavecchia, the port for Rome, which is about 44 miles away.
Over the years, we’ve spent quite a bit of time exploring Rome, so we weren’t sure if we’d take the train into the city for the day. However, after learning there was a national railway strike and that rain was expected all day, we decided to stay onboard instead.

After breakfast in the dining room, I managed to survive a workout in the Fitness Center while Debbie tackled a load of laundry. She thought the laundry room on our deck would be empty, but apparently some of the 580 passengers staying on for the next segment had the same idea. It took three different decks before she finally found an available washer!

This morning we also received a letter from the Loyalty Manager informing us that we’ve been “demoted” to the third most-traveled guests for this new 11-day segment.
As we were leaving breakfast, we ran into the lovely couple from Virginia who had been the most-traveled guests on the last segment — they’re now in second place for this one! They’ve been onboard for seven consecutive months, having boarded back in March, and have mostly held the top spot ever since. The passengers now ranked number one only have about 20 more days than our friends from Virginia, so it’s quite the friendly competition.

For the record, our Virginian friends have an impressive 1,350 days at sea, while we’ll have a measly 1,066 days after this segment. So yes, we may drop to fourth place (or even lower!) before the cruise ends.

Tonight, we’ll be dining in the Sanctuary Restaurant and on the lookout for our friends Jill and Mike, who boarded today.

Tomorrow we return to Naples, where we’ll be having lunch with some crew members.

Today’s post is a bit light in photos, so here’s some information on the ship.
