Cruise Day #19 - Papeete, Tahiti

Last night started out in the Observation Bar—and wow, it was packed! It rained most of the day, which kept everyone indoors. As we walked in around 6:00, we got a wave from our friends C & M, who are usually heading out to dinner just as we arrive. They’ve been staying long enough lately to give us their bar seats—so incredibly nice of them!

While we were at the bar, the anchor was lifted and we began leaving the safety of the bay. As soon as we hit open water, the ship started rockin’! We seriously cannot wait to get out of this storm system. (And just to be clear—the ship rocked all. night. long.)

After a good 90 minutes, we were ready for dinner.

Dinner at the Colonnade was… a bit off. We both started with the sushi appetizer—not very good.

We think it had been prepared in advance, which caused it to dry out. We shared the lobster tempura next, which was nice and hot and very good.

The miso soup was excellent,

and we both ordered the black cod for our main course—the fish itself was perfectly cooked.

Unfortunately, neither of us cared for the glass noodles. Oh well, it won’t be our last meal! πŸ˜‚

We were moving a bit slow this morning, but Debbie still managed to knock out two loads of laundry. With it being turnaround day, we figured the laundry rooms would be quiet—and they were.

We finally went ashore around 10 after grabbing a couple of croissants and cappuccinos from Seabourn Square. The weather looked a bit ominous, but thankfully it wasn’t raining.

We wandered around town for a while, visiting some of Debbie’s favorite shops, and eventually made our way to the central market.

While we were inside, we completely missed a heavy downpour that lasted about 15 minutes—perfect timing!

Debbie doing what she does best, negotiating!
Debbie commented on how much prices have gone up since our last visit about 18 months ago, but she still managed to find (and buy) a lovely pair of earrings.

We returned to the ship just in time for lunch in the Colonnade. As usual, lunch was amazing, with tons of great seafood. Our friend H joined us, and we had a great time catching up. By the way, there was a another huge downpour just as we sat down for lunch, great timing!

As we completed the first of our three segments today (we booked as one), Romano—the Future Cruise Consultant and Seabourn Club Manager—upgraded our Club status to Silver because we surpassed the 15-day qualifying threshold. πŸŽ‰

Typically, most cruise lines don’t upgrade your loyalty status until the completion of your voyage, but Romano explained that Seabourn allows upgrades during your cruise if you’re sailing for 30 days or longer. Nice perk!

With our new Silver status, we were able to choose one of the following benefits:

• Complimentary 2-Devices Stream Wi-Fi package

• 10% savings on Shore Excursions

•10% savings on premium wines & spirits

• Complimentary telephone — 20 minutes

• Seabourn Club Signature Massage

• Day in the Spa Serene Area

• One complimentary bag of laundry

We opted for the Stream Wi-Fi package. So far, we haven’t felt the need to stream anything since we’ve been happily watching new-to-us movies on the on-demand system. However, once we inevitably run out of fresh options, I’ll be breaking out the HDMI cables and streaming Netflix and Hulu on the TV. πŸ“ΊπŸΏ

Looking ahead to our next voyage, we’ll be able to add free unlimited laundry to our perks—which may be the most exciting benefit of all! πŸ˜„

Oh, did I mention the really comfortable provided slippers?

Nice touch! There are also really plush bathrobes—unfortunately, we’re just not robe wearers.
