Cruise Day #18 - Maroe Bay, Huahine

Last night, almost as soon as we lifted anchor around 10:15, the ship started to rock—and it didn’t stop. We’re still caught in that large weather system, and it rocked us all night long. At this point, I’m not sure if the bad weather is following us, or if we’re following it.

This morning we arrived in Huahine to very dark skies and steady rain.

After a light breakfast in the Colonnade, we waited patiently for a break in the weather. Around 10:00 a.m., it seemed to ease up just enough for us to take a chance on the water shuttle to shore.

Seabourn offers a complimentary 20-minute shuttle bus into the main town of Fare, so off we went.

Naturally, about halfway to shore, the skies opened up—and I mean sideways, torrential rain. When we arrived, it was still coming down hard. The water shuttle crew waited about 10 minutes to see if things might improve, but no luck. Eventually, about half of the 15 or so passengers made a mad dash for the waiting shuttle bus and headed into town. We were among the other half who opted to retreat back to the ship. A sloppy, soaking-wet day in a small island town just didn’t sound appealing, and the beach was completely out of the question anyway.

We may try to go ashore later this afternoon if the skies clear. As I’m writing this, however, it has actually gotten darker—and it’s absolutely pouring!

In the meantime, I’ll highlight a few more Seabourn features. I received an email asking about the provided bathroom amenities. They include an array of Molton Brown products.

Along with these bars of soap.

While they are very high quality, we tend to prefer our tried-and-true brands from home, which we always bring along on our trips. One small detail we’ve been especially impressed with is the swiveling spout on the bathroom faucets.

It’s such a simple yet smart design and incredibly convenient. I know it always seems to be the little things we notice most—but those little things really do make a difference.

Notes on the Included Seabourn Wines:

Each day, Seabourn offers new wine selections—a white and a red. In addition to these daily pours, there are several other options available by request. We’ve found most of the included wines to be perfectly satisfactory, generally falling into the light- to medium-bodied category. So far, though, we haven’t come across a truly full-bodied red.

Now, don’t get me wrong—we enjoy light and medium reds very much, but we also really enjoy a bold, full-bodied red. Thankfully, the wines we brought along filled that gap nicely… at least until our onboard “cellar” started running low. With that supply nearly depleted, we’re now considering one of the Premium wine packages to bridge the gap.

The bottles available for purchase are quite impressive, and the pricing is equally appealing. After all, we still have a long way to go before reaching Sydney! 🍷

For dinner tonight, we are leaning towards the Colonnade, the menu looks intriguing!
