Today we are anchored just outside Belize City, Belize. Because of the expansive Belize Barrier Reef, large cruise ships must anchor quite a distance from shore. Getting ashore requires a 30-minute water shuttle ride.
In the below photo, Belize City can be seen in the far background.
Having visited Belize several times in the past—including a memorable trip to the excellent Mayan ruins about an hour outside the city—we decided to stay “home” and relax in the Sanctuary today.
The kids, on the other hand, booked a cave tubing excursion through Viator and were excited for their adventure.
The Carnival Dream is anchored right next to us, continuing what feels like a game of tag with Carnival ships—we believe this is the fourth different one we've seen on this trip!
We lasted in the Sanctuary until about 1 p.m., when the oppressive heat and lack of air movement finally drove us inside. Debbie used this time to wash some of our more delicate clothing items in the ship's laundromat.
As Princess Elite members, we receive complimentary laundry service, but you have to be okay with items going through a hot dryer. Many of the things we prefer not to send out are hung to dry in our stateroom using magnetic hooks we attach to the metal ceiling.
