Barcelona Day #3 - Shopping Safari

We woke up to cloudy skies and a high chance of thunderstorms, but that wasn’t going to deter Debbie from her proclamation last night — today was going to be dedicated to shopping! We started the day with a hearty omelet breakfast, the best crusty sourdough toast, and cappuccinos.

And then, we were off!

Yesterday, Debbie had made a mental note of where to begin her shopping safari. Our first stop was a six-story Zara. Since Zara is based in Madrid, she insists that the stores in Spain carry items not available anywhere else. Who am I to doubt a professional shopper?

It turned out to be a very fun day, even though I felt like a sherpa carrying all the bags! I can already see another suitcase in our future before this trip ends. We — or rather, Debbie — visited six Zaras and about eight other stores. I think her shopping enthusiasm is rubbing off on me though — I ended up buying a pair of pants at Hugo Boss and shoes at Geox!

The rain never amounted to more than a few sprinkles, and by afternoon we were ready to refuel. We walked 7.5 miles.

After dropping off our bags in the room, we enjoyed a late lunch at the restaurant in the Mercat de Santa Caterina.

The place was packed,

but they managed to find us a small table. We shared grilled calamari with asparagus, steamed mussels, toasted bread with “smeared” tomato, and a bottle of really nice local rosé.  The food here is FANTASTIC!  Our Devour tour guide from last night, told us that this is one of her favorite restaurant.

Here are some photos from today...

This is our favorite store in Barcelona, El Cortes de Inglés. It is a huge mall type store with everything you can think of from clothing, shoes, cosmetics, supermarket, and really nice food venues.

Tonight, we are so tired that we had dinner at our hotel. We shared a delicious tomato salad with the best crusty sourdough bread

and for our entree we both had their lobster spaghetti.
It was sooo good!  The reserve tempranillo was also outstanding!
