Good Morning, Santorini!
It’s a beautiful, sunny day! After a very light breakfast, we are now comfortably ensconced in the Sanctuary Club. At the moment, there are only two other guests here. We expect it will stay quiet today since most passengers will be heading ashore. The ship is anchored offshore, so guests need to take a water shuttle to reach the island. Once there, there are two ways to access the town perched at the top of the caldera: by cable car or by riding donkeys up the steep hillside. Years ago, we made the mistake of walking down the donkey trail because of long lines for the cable car — never again! There was donkey poop and urine everywhere, and the smell was awful. To make matters worse, the donkeys going up and down the path seemed determined to bump into us! Definitely a memorable travel experience. And, luckily for those going ashore, we are the only cruise ship today. We have been here before with three ships and it was a zoo!
The view of Santorini from the Sanctuary Club is absolutely stunning.
Over the next few days, the Sanctuary Club will be undergoing some remodeling as they install new buffet counters.
