Our first stop was The Club to listen to the band, where we met another nice couple from Michigan. They were already fretting about going home in a few days. Our arrival in Papeete on Saturday marks the end of the first segment of this voyage, with Auckland wrapping up the second. They mentioned they had only boarded in Honolulu, after spending a week in Maui beforehand. Seabourn allowed them to board there, but they still paid the full fare from LA. It didn’t strike us as the smartest plan as they missed a large portion of their cruise, but hey, to each their own.
Next up was dinner in the Colonnade. We were nicely dressed, me sans a coat, and the Colonnade was hopping. About 65% of the crowd was not in formal attire, which really highlights how nice it is to have the option to dress up or keep it casual. Dinner was excellent. We both started with the onion soup and had lobster for our main course. No dessert… shocking, I know. 😄
After dinner, we returned to The Club to enjoy more music until it was time to head to the Grand Salon for the Seabourn Singers and dancers. The show was impressive. The six dancers and two singers are truly outstanding performers, and we had a great time.
This morning, after another light breakfast, we attended our first lecture of the cruise, and perhaps our last, as lectures really aren’t our thing. The topic was the Cuban Revolution and the Missile Crisis. Being Cuban-born, I was curious about the accuracy. The talk was okay. It left out some important details, but it did cover the basics.
Then it was off to the pool and our favorite loungers. At the same time, they were hosting the Crossing the Equator Neptune Ceremony, led by Ross, the Cruise Director, along with the Captain (we crossed the Equator at around midnight last night). We are always amazed at how many people volunteer to get slimed. This was a very mild ceremony. We’ve seen far more food dumped on unsuspecting newbies in the past. Not today!
Today’s lunch in the Colonnade featured grilled Opah (aka Moonfish), and it was absolutely delicious! I have to say, the onboard seafood has far exceeded our expectations 🐟👏.
That said, since we’re dining at Solis tonight, I’ll be missing one of my favorites, the Blue Marlin in The Restaurant. Fingers crossed it makes another appearance before the voyage is over! 🤞😋
Here are a couple of photos of the spiral staircase, one taken from Deck 4 looking up and the other from Deck 10 looking down. I’m getting artistic over here! 😄
